Crossroads Career Network
Large networking group of protestant churches, meeting at various days of the month. The largest groups, such as Roswell UMC and North Point Community Church,, may have 300+ job seekers present, and many offer smaller, special interest groups as well as pairing up with a mentor. Their new web site is not at all user-friendly, so you will not be able to locate all the groups in metro-Atlanta. The groups with which I am most familar are these, and please contact me for others I should add:
Ben Hill UMC (TIBS) (southwest Atlanta, meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays.but does not meet during summer)
Cascade UMC (website under construction; meets 2nd and 4th Thursdays monthly to alternate with Ben Hill UMC)
Roswell UMC - Meets 2 & 4 Mondays.
First UMC of Lawrenceville (LEAP) - Meets first Wednesday monthly at 7pm.
Snellville UMC - Offers 8-week career workshop.
Dunwoody Baptist Church - Meets first Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30 pm in D-300.
North Point Community Church (Alpharetta) - Meets every Monday 7:45am - 9:45am, plus several smaller, industry-focused subgroups.
Johnson Ferry Baptist Church (Marietta) - Meets first Mondays at 6:15pm for networking and resume review, followed by speaker at 7pm.
Mt. Bethel UMC (Marietta) Meets second and fourth Tuesdays monthly in the Mt. Bethel Community Center

Catholic Job Networking Groups

St. Benedict Catholic Church in Johns Creek, GA (11045 Parsons Road, 30097-1769; 770-442-5903) Career Network: meets monthly Tuesday evenings starting at 7:30pm in the new classroom building rooms 5 and 7. In addition to Crossroads Career network and the Catholic Archdiocese , Atlanta has several other groups that meet in local churches, although they are non-sectarian and welcome all job seekers. They provide an outstanding opportunity to meet other job seekers, network, and compare your efforts
St. Mark United Methodist Church, 781 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, 30308; 404-873-2636 (Midtown Atlanta). Well-run and small enough to meet everyone there, excellent speakers. Meets every Tuesday at 6:30, but arrive early: parking can be an issue.
Non-profit agency offers extensive employment counseling through their Career Workshops and maintains a Job Bank of current openings referred to them. Meets first, second, and third Thursdays in their offices at 4549 Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta 30338. They also have a support group for those who are currently looking for employment. The weekly sessions will be designed to help members manage the emotional stress of being unemployed. The group will meet on Mondays from 11 - 12:30 pm. At JF&CS (4549 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd.). The groups are free, but registration is required. Call 770.677.9496 to register. In addition two congregations have regular job networking groups:Congregation Beth Shalom is the only Jewish group currently meeting in metro Atlanta. Sponsors highly effective monthly structured networking meetings; time and place varies. After a short talk from a job search expert, the participants break down into groups of four for fifteen minutes of networking, then move to another group for more networking. During the evening, you will have met with all the 50 or so people present. Have plenty of business cards and plan in advance what information you would like to obtain. The FENG is a senior level "circle of friends." Members have typically been Chief Financial Officers, Controllers, and Vice Presidents of Finance, Treasury, Tax, or Mergers & Acquisition, as well as other financial disciplines. The Atlanta Chapter has 1300+ members and meets on the second Wednesday monthly, 5:30 - 8:30. One of the nation's largest professional networking organizations for gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders. Monthly meetings generally on thrid Thursday, plus several luncheons during month. Has job lists and posts resumes online.
